In April this year, the Civil Service Bureau launched a Civil Service Volunteer Work Programme to promote voluntary service. The Force promotes participation in healthy lifestyle activities by Force members and one of the healthy activities is volunteer work. With that in mind, the Force Healthy Lifestyle Working Group plans to organize a Force Volunteer Service Programme to further promote such activities among the Force members and their families, and to acknowledge the efforts of officers who have been participating in such programmes.
The Programme can be divided into two stages. First stage will involve the volunteer services being provided on individual or group basis whilst the second stage involves a ceremony on December 15, which will also mark the UN's International Volunteer Day on December 5. Outside organisations assisting include the Social Welfare Department (SWD), Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) and the Salvation Army (SA). The first stage will involve seeking individuals or groups to participate in voluntary work. Any interested individuals/groups who wish to participate in such activities are requested to indicate the type of service they plan to perform. If necessary, suitable voluntary work can be matched through the services of SWD, HKRC and SA. Subject to available resources, financial support as appropriate can be provided to groups intending to organize volunteer activities. At the same time, Residents' Associations and Co-operative Societies of Police Quarters or any other associations in the Force are encouraged to consider participation in donations of warm clothing/toys/books to 'help the disadvantaged' such as aged people or hospitalised children. The collection can be coordinated through the assisting organisation(s), such as the Salvation Army, if necessary. Finally, the Hong Kong Red Cross will be invited to set up a counter for information and registration on December 15. The ceremony is to be held at Police Sports & Recreation Club from 10 am to 5 pm. Force Senior Management and/or a dignitary in the field of community volunteer service will be invited to officiate at the event. Interested Force voluntary groups and outside organisations will be invited to set up booths to display and promote their volunteer services.
