Credit-card Fraud: Commercial Crime Bureau Counterfeit & Forgery Division saved the credit card industry and its customers at least $10 million in an operation monitoring purchases of moon-cake coupons in the lead up to this year' s Mid-Autumn Festival. Industry representatives presented plaques in appreciation of their successful initiative.
CCB Chief Superintendent, Mr Wong Fook-chuen, accepting the plaques, said: "The CCB will continue to work closely with the industry to reduce the cost of credit card fraud to the industry and to card users generally." Vice President Regional Card Fraud Risk of Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Mr Kenny Lau, representing the industry, said: "The industry as a whole greatly appreciates the efforts made by CCB on counterfeit payment card crime." Burglary & Fencing: Representatives from two private firms earlier commended officers of the Central Division for solving a number of cases involving burglary and handling stolen property. Snatching: At another presentation ceremony, officers attached to Kowloon West Emergency Unit Number Two Platoon were presented with an appreciation banner for their professionalism in the detection of a snatching case. The officers arrested the suspect and recovered $300,000 of stolen cash. Burglary: In Eastern District, a group of local community leaders, including District Council members and representatives from mutual aid committees, earlier presented banners to officers of the Task Force and Patrol Sub-Unit Two of Chai Wan Division, in appreciation of their efforts in arresting two burglary suspects.
