Three elite members of the Police Swimming Club took part in a 20km marathon swim in Shandong Province organised by Mainland China's National Police Sports Association on National Day this year.

Billy Chan Sze-tat, Kelvin Ho Ka-fei and Carman Hung Oi-man, competing with about 150 Police swimmers from all over the country, earned 'Certificates of Excellence' for completing the course in six, seven and eight hours respectively.

"We were swimming in a lake much larger than Victoria harbour for the very first time," said Billy Chan, "and although 20 km is a long way our main problem was the freezing cold weather and strong winds. I've never shivered so much in my life!

"We had made up our minds that because this was the first time we were taking part in a National Police event we had to complete the course no matter what the difficulties. It was exciting to be there and exchange experiences with our Mainland compatriots working in all areas of law enforcement. We hope to be able to take part in next year's event in Yunan Province," he ended.

"Certificates of Excellence" Now, that's something to make a splash about
