The Law Infostation, a website on the Police Intranet, was created by the Learning Support Division of TDB, to provide Force members with learning materials on law related subjects. It has now migrated to a new location under the menu of Knowledge Management (KM) which can be assessed via the POINT front page, including and even by POINT from home.
Aligned with the expansion and development of KM which aims to provide all job-related information to members across the Force, the Law Infostation has now joined the database system so that members can get easier on-line access to knowledge of the law and information on related subjects. The English version of the Law Infostation in KM is already up and running. Facelift TDB Chief Inspector Raymond Ng, responsible for the migration said, "The Law Infostation was first rolled out in the form of an independent Training Wing website in January 2002, to provide members with a 'One-Stop-Shop' service in respect to finding out more about new legislation and case-related information. "Since KM has been developing at good speed and encompasses all other learning materials, it is considered the right time to move the Law Infostation to the KM system and, at the same time, give the Infostation a bit of a facelift. "There are direct benefits from the migration which includes improvement of search capability and ease of usage as well as efficiency in data maintenance. However, the migration process is time-consuming because it requires the fresh input of all data from scratch. "We have just finished uploading the English version of 'What's new in Law' and 'Common Police Powers'. Other parts of the Law Infostation such as links to the 'Criminal Appeal Bulletin' and 'Regional Crime Bulletins' will be built soon and they will be followed by the launch of the Chinese version, which takes a longer time to upload and translate. Our Law Infostation aims to encompass lessons learned from practical operational duties, both Crime and UB, for experience sharing", Mr Ng added.
