Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) Senior Superintendent, Mr Alan Fan Sik-ming, and Principal Information Officer, Miss Teresa Chiu, were among the delegates from 18 provinces and cities attending the first Chinese Police Public Relations Forum in Beijing from October 29 to November 1.
The four-day forum aimed to: (1) exchange experience in Police public relations work, (2) facilitate the modernisation of the management of Chinese police work, (3) establish a common objective for Chinese Police, and (4) promote a positive image of Chinese Police and its objectives in the coming two years. Two officers from the Korean Police and three Macao Judiciary Police representatives were also invited to participate as guest speakers. The event consisted of a series of discussions and visits. During the discussion sessions, a number of delegates shared their firsthand experience in police public relations work while the Hong Kong Police delegates briefly introduced the Force's recent public relations strategy and explained the function of PPRB. The delegates were also taken to visit the Beijing Police Museum and the command centre of Langfang Municipal Public Security Bureau where an advanced command system was installed in 2000. The inaugural forum was a success, according to Mr Fan. "The overall consensus among delegates was that it had been a valuable and informative meeting for police public relations personnel from different regions. It was also agreed that we should further enhance our co-operation to facilitate the public relations work of Chinese Police," Mr Fan concluded.
