Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho Chi-ping; Yau Tsim District Commander, Mr John Bicknell, and his Community Relations Officer, Mr Lau Chi-pui, were invited to the Kowloon Mosque & Islamic Centre for the Itfar Ceremony marking the start of fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The ceremony was conducted by the Chairman of the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong, Mr Uddin, who headed a multi-national group of Muslims. Dr Ho said that the gathering "enhanced mutual understanding and gathering between the Government, the Force and the South Asian ethnic community of Hong Kong". Mr Bicknell observed that "Yau Tsim has a fascinating and cosmopolitan mix of many ethnic groups among its residents and visitors". He said: "For Muslims a visit to the Mosque is a solemn daily ritual which has a profound spiritual function and also provides the opportunity to exchange news and views of their community. Close co-operation between the organisers and officers of Tsim Sha Tsui Division had ensured the event was conducted smoothly."
