Police continue to give prime concern to crime prevention |

Police always give prime concern to the prevention of crime especially burglaries of residential premises and would keep working closely with different sectors of the community to address the problem. Speaking at the launching ceremony of the second phase of the Fight Crime Publicity Campaign 2002/03, the Director of Crime and Security, Mr Chau Foo-cheong, said the Force would continue to enlist public support in the fight against crime to ensure Hong Kong remained one of the safest cities in the world. The current publicity drive adopted the slogan of "Stop Burglaries. Lock Up!". The first phase of the campaign on "anti-shop theft" was launched in August. In order to effectively put across the message that burglaries were mainly caused by negligence and failure to take precautions such as locking up windows and doors, an Announcement of Public Interest (API) for television broadcast was produced and would be reinforced by a comprehensive package with items ranging from radio API, posters, leaflets as well as advertisements on buses and newspapers. Premiered at the launching ceremony, the suspense-ridden TV API on anti-burglaries featured members of a victimised family wondering why their home was burgled. It ended with the father admitting his failure to lock up.
