Children of Junior Police Officers are invited to apply for the McDonald's American Field Service (AFS) Intercultural Exchanges Scholarship and win a prize to study in a foreign country for free.
The recipient of the scholarship will stay with a host family and attend a local school for one academic year. The $66,000 prize covers round-trip international and local travel, school fees, orientation and medical costs.
The non-profit-making and volunteer-based student exchange programme, which operates in more than 60 countries, is aimed at enriching and broadening life experiences and horizons.
Applicants must be aged from 15 to 18-and-a-half on the date of departure. With transcripts proving their academic motivation, applicants must be curious about the world, eager to learn and face the challenges of living in a new culture.
The successful candidate will depart between July and September next year for a country in Asia, Europe, Africa or the USA. AFS will handle the selection process independently but students may indicate a preferred country that is subject to AFS's final decision.
The deadline for the application will fall on January 15, 2003. Application forms should be sent to the Chief Superintendent, Personnel Services, 1/F, Dominion Centre, 43-59 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai (Attn: Executive Officer, Personnel Services 2). For enquiries, please call 2804-1111.
