The Hong Kong Police Band joined Mainland visitors, the China Armed Police Band, at an historical ceremony to raise the national flag and the flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Wan chai's Golden Bauhinia Square on December 1. The China Armed Police Band, established in 1987, is responsible for conducting ceremonial performances for the Government and the Chinese People's Armed Police. Throughout its 15-year establishment, the Band has made a number of overseas visits and participated in numerous national events, including the grand parade on Tiananmen Square in 1999 in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. After the flag raising, the two bands played the National Anthem and a selection of martial tunes. "This was the first time that another band joined the Force Band at the flag raising ceremony and it was clear that tourists and local residents alike were enthralled by this spectacular event," said Police Training School Chief Drill & Musketry Inspector, Mr Chow Kwok-kee.
