In late December the Commissioner, Mr Tsang Yam-pui, paid a courtesy visit to the Shun Lee and Sau Mau Ping Disciplined Services Quarters (DSQ) and met with three Force members in their homes. The Commissioner took the opportunity to talk to the officers and their families over a range of topics, from their daily life to work.

He was accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner (Personnel), Mr Chan Wai-ki, Superintendent (Quartering), Ms Cecilia Ng Suk-fun, and Junior Police Officers Association Chairman Mr Lau Kam-wah and Vice-Chairman Mr Lau Yung-kan.

At the home of Station Sergeant Mr Mak Moon-fai, who was among the first batch of officers to move into Shun Lee from the old Kennedy Town Police Married Quarters, both he and his wife expressed deep satisfaction with their three-bedroom apartment and with its proximity to public transport and markets.

The second home visited by the Commissioner, was that of Police Constable Mr Li Siu-ping, his wife and six-year-old daughter. After giving a warm welcome to the Commissioner, Mr Li thanked the Commissioner for his obvious concern for staff welfare indicated by his visit.

The whole party then proceeded to Sau Mau Ping and visited Station Sergeant Mr Ma Chi-man, his wife and his 16-year-old son. They said that they were highly pleased with the 780-square-foot apartment in which they had moved two months earlier from Chai Wan.

The Commissioner was impressed with the high standard of quality of the two DSQ and was delighted to learn the occupants were pleased with the facilities there.

In the past couple of years, the Force has taken over 3,287 units in four DSQ, namely the Shun Lee, Sau Mau Ping, Lai King and West Kowloon.
