Sai Kung Day Camp for Juvenile Offenders |
A Day Camp, held in Sai Kung just before Christmas, was a Juvenile Protection Service (JPS) and Youth Support Services (YSS) joint initiative to remind parents that they must play an important role in the positive and healthy development of their children. Seminars on effective parent-child communication, outdoor parent-child activities and group competition were used to deliver that message. New Territories South (NTS) Regional Commander, Mr Mike Dowie, and recently appointed Crime Prevention Angel, movie star and singer Ms Gigi Leung, were also present.
The NTS JPS and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) YSS work closely in providing follow-up services to juveniles and young offenders under the Superintendent's Discretion Scheme. The common objective is to reduce the risk of recidivism through a Force-NGO multi-disciplined approach providing a variety of services to the youths and their families including: home visits by JPS staff; various youth programmes organised by the YSS youths centres; crime prevention youth volunteer services training by the Regional Community Police Unit; and, community participation activities such as visits to single-elderly homes, and anti-street deception drama performances in elderly centres.
