A representative of the Hong Kong Police Chinese Wushu Club won the first runner-up award after hard fights in the first International Police Fight Competition in Beijing last month.

Police Constable Mr Cheung Kai-yin represented the Force and won the prize in the 58 kg weight class event, only losing to a Chinese ex-San Da National Champion.

Mr Cheung told OffBeat that he was happy with the result although he suffered leg injuries in the fight. "I have fully recovered now," he said. "It is worthwhile and it is a precious opportunity for me to have a friendly exchange with representatives of other countries.

"To prepare for the competition, I had undergone intensive outdoor training under cold weather conditions - as low as minus six degrees Celsius - in Beijing," he said.

More than 10 countries took part in the event, including Germany, Hungary, Israel, Thailand, Vietnam, Brazil and the United States. Next year's competition will be held in Hamburg, Germany.
