The quarantine of Amoy Gardens Block E on March 31 conducted by the Department of Health with the assistance of officers from Kowloon East (KE) Region and Police Tactical Unit platoons from Hong Kong Island and New Territories South.

Subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner (Management), Mr Fung Siu-yuen, visited KE Operational Base Officers' Mess, to thank the officers concerned for executing a difficult and sensitive operation at such short notice and to such good effect.

Message from the Commissioner

In a letter to all members of the Force, Commissioner Mr Tsang Yam-pui said, inter-alia, that "the Amoy Gardens operation provides a clear indication of how flexible and professional we have to be in addressing both the urgency and complexity of the current situation".

He said that he realised that the essential duties on which Police officers are now being deployed are potentially hazardous but that, like their colleagues in the health services, they have rightly given overriding priority to their responsibilities for the safety of the public. "I thank them very much for their excellent response,"Mr Tsang added.

He urged all officers to take good care of themselves by observing all health precautions that have already been circulated throughout the Force.
