Commissioner Mr Tsang Yam-pui awarded a 'Commissioner's Commendation' to two Marine Police Constables, Mr Lee Kam-hung and Mr Chan Ka-chun. They were both commended for separate acts in which they had displayed "courage, initiative and devotion to duty of an exceptionally high order".

On October 6, 2002, Mr Lee had jumped into the sea in adverse weather and sea conditions and rescued an unconscious woman illegal immigrant who was in danger of drowning after having been thrown into the sea from a capsized sampan under pursuit by Police Launch 87.

At the same time, Mr Chan had jumped into the sea in the same adverse weather and sea conditions and rescued a semi-conscious woman illegal immigrant from drowning, and assisted in the rescue of two other illegal immigrants, all of whom had been thrown into the sea from the capsized sampan under pursuit by Police Launch 89.

OffBeat will run an article on the two brave policemen in the coming issue.
