Tripartite efforts in combating cross-boundary crime

The Sixth Tripartite (Hong Kong - Guangdong - Macao) Meeting was recently held in Macao. Previously the bi-annual meetings had determined to introduce mechanisms and procedures to reduce serious cross-boundary crime, illegal immigration, prostitution and drug trafficking. Through subsequent effective exchange of intelligence, a number of investigations were launched and successfully concluded.

An 11-member delegation from Hong Kong was led by Director of Crime & Security Mr Chau Foo-cheong and a 20-member delegation from Guangdong Provincial Public Security Bureau was led by Deputy Director Mr Zheng Dong. Ministry of Public Security CID Office Deputy Director Mr Xue Dongzheng attended as a guest.

An opening address by the Government of Macao Special Administrative Region Secretary for Security, Mr Cheong Kuoc Va, was followed by discussions on matters of mutual concern and interest.

Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Mr Lo Yik-kee discussed with representatives from the other two sides such significant issues as combatting cross-boundary crime, the establishment of a 24-hour hotline, and anti-terrorism measures.

The next meeting will be in Guangdong in September.
