The death has occurred in Hong Kong of Superintendent Mr Donald Alexander Logan, aged 48. A funeral service attended by family friends and colleagues was held at St John's Cathedral on May 22.

Don joined the Hong Kong Police in June 1975, but he was no stranger to the Force, having resided at Police Training School in the early 1970s where his father, Mr Thomas 'Alec' Logan had been Force Training Officer following his own Police career in the United Kingdom. His son 'Don' was born in Scotland but moved to Hong Kong as a teenager with his parents; he studied at Island School and joined the Force at the age of 21 after working as a Radio Operator for the Automobile Association in England.

Don proved himself a good and dedicated Crime officer and he spent much of his career in the Crime stream, serving in all three land Regions. He was a big man who earned a reputation for handling big cases. An immense criminal investigation into corporate negligence, which had caused the death of 12 construction site workers, is one such investigation for which Don is well remembered and there are many more examples of his ability as a detective and of his commitment and high integrity. In his career he served as ADC Crime in no less than seven districts over a 13-year period.

Don was a sporting man at school and during his early years in the Force; in later years he took a keen interest in Mini Rugby in which his only son Jason was very active. Don's large profile was easily recognised across the park as he exhorted the Football Club (mini) team on to greater victories.

Don will be remembered with great fondness and respect by the many who have known him socially and professionally.
