A Joint Exercise on Crime, Fire and Maritime Pollution Prevention was held on May 24 at Marine Regional Headquarters. Three seminars were organised by Marine Port District Harbour Division (Crime Prevention), Fire Services Department Marine Division (Fire Prevention) and Marine Department Pollution Control Unit (Pollution Prevention) for representatives of some 10 marine-related associations and trades.

They included various fishermen's associations, Marine Fuels Distributors' Association, Hong Kong Cargo Vessel Traders' Association and Hong Kong & Kowloon Motor Boats & Tug Boats Association.

After the seminars, the Pollution Control Unit gave a lively demonstration of marine pollution control. The guests were then invited to board the new 'Keka' type Police launch and the Fire Boat 'Elite' moored at Marine Regional Headquarters and were given a briefing on the different types of equipment on board. At the end of the event, a tea party was held in the Regional Mess during which guests exchanged views on the themes of the exercise.
