Guide to Effective Training

Training Wing has recently produced 'A Guide to Effective Training' to help Force training personnel to provide the highest standard of training to support the delivery of a quality police service to the community.

Assistant Commissioner (Training), Mr David Thomas, explained to OffBeat that the Guide provides very practical and useful tips on how to plan, design, conduct and evaluate a training programme. Everyone, in particular staff with training administration or instructional duties, will definitely benefit from reading the Guide.

The production of the Guide is one of the first measures to establish a quality assurance mechanism, which is a main ingredient on the road to create a Police College. A number of other initiatives are also being planned to ensure professionalism in Force training. One example is to design advanced modules on special topics for graduates of the Student Instructors' Course.

Mr Thomas reiterated that the Force fully recognised the importance of providing timely and high quality training to its employees. However, he pointed out that to maximise our return on investment in training and to improve value for money, every member in the Force has a role to play in the training and development process.

The author of the Guide, Force Training Officer Superintendent Mr Davis Law, added that the Guide is a handy tool-kit for training staff. It contains lots of reference materials including sample lesson plans and course evaluation questionnaires.

Don't hesitate. Visit the Training Wing Homepage on POINT and study the Guide now!
