The history of Renegade Match originated in 1977. The match is basically an annual game by the Police Hockey Club (PHC) players against other police officers who had opted to play for other teams or are casual players. The Renegade Shield was presented by Mr Guy Shirra who was the Club's Chairman between 1975 and 1980.

As the Renegade match has a long history and unites all Police hockey players, it is recognised by the Force as a major traditional sports event.

This year's match was held on May 23 at Happy Valley. The Club won 6:1 this year. Kowloon West Regional Commander Mr Mike Dowie presented the Shield to Police Hockey Club after the match.
