Two Hong Kong Police Sergeants brought back invaluable experience and knowledge after attending a three-week Management Development Course in the Scottish Police College in June.

Police Training School Sergeant Mr Leung Yik-lai and Criminal Intelligence Bureau's Sergeant Mr Ng Wai-hung were selected to attend the course after making the grade in a selection interview earlier this year.

The Management Development Course aims to provide promotion training to Scottish Sergeants so as to enhance their ability and knowledge of management and leadership.

Mr Leung told OffBeat: "Lecturers at the College adopted an interactive and open teaching style. They placed great emphasis on two-way communication and group discussions and encouraged students to speak up. Participants took turn to speak to the class."

The pair also had the opportunity of an attachment to the Grampian Police (one of the eight Police Forces in Scotland) to conduct a night shift mobile patrol duty with local police in Aberdeen.

Mr Ng said: "In Aberdeen, closed-circuit televisions are installed along major streets to monitor the traffic conditions. Officers at the police station would monitor the footage relayed by the CCTVs. If anything special happened, they would call the mobile patrol car so that officers could speed to the scene immediately.

"During the attachment, I witnessed how the Grampian Police enforced the law," he added.

During the tour, the pair was invited to be the assessors of a foot drill competition among the probationary police constables of the College. Meanwhile, they were also invited to be guests at the Passing Out Parade in the dais with the Commissioners of the Scottish Police College and the Grampian Police.
