Kowloon East (KE) Regional Commander Mr Mak Man-poon gave a speech to guests at a lunch held for the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) and the KE Road Safety Patrol on August 21.

Mr Mak said: "There has been continuous good co-operation between Railway District Police and the MTRC at all levels."

In June 2003, MTRC started a special MTR By-laws Enforcement Operation lasting for 12 months with the objective of ensuring a safe and comfortable travel environment. Dedicated MTRC teams were formed to take action against passengers for spitting, littering and causing other nuisance in MTRC areas.

Mr Mak wished them success in their efforts and pledged: "Railway District Police are ready to provide any support needed to ensure that the MTRC remained a clean, safe and reliable service."

Kwun Tong District Traffic & Transport Committee Chairman Mr Chan Chun-bun, and Sai Kung District Traffic & Transport Committee Chairman Mr Chau Yin-ming, were at the luncheon, together with Road Safety Patrol guests. They also received Mr Mak's thanks for their consistent contribution to and staunch support of Police efforts to ensure road safety; especially in their participation in the road safety activities.

"Your valuable efforts have enabled us to fulfil our roles more successfully. Schools are cradles of road safety education. Members of the Road Safety Patrol are recruited from secondary schools, primary schools and kindergartens. They disseminate road safety message in schools by setting examples and acting as Road Safety Ambassadors.

"With your invaluable support," he continued, "the road safety knowledge of student members has been enhanced. Their individual values have also been strengthened in the areas of self-discipline, respect for others and for society's code of discipline, as well as good citizenship."
