Day camp on anti juvenile-crime |
||
|
In the first six months of this year, the number of juvenile offenders (between 7 and 15) was 2,596 and although this represented a 13.7 per cent decrease over the same period last year, it remains a serious problem and appears to involve ever-younger first time offenders. In an enthusiastic effort to reduce the juvenile crime rate, New Territories North (NTN) Juvenile Protection Section and the Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service Community Youth Enhancement Scheme have recently jointly organised an 'Anti Juvenile-Crime' day camp at Tai Mei Tuk Activity Training Centre. NTN Regional Community Relations Office Chief Inspector Mr Hau Kwong-chi said that officers and social workers combined their talents and skills to organise a fun and learning day for 40 juveniles at risk. There were games, role-playing opportunities and information on how to earn money by legitimate means. Rapport was rapidly established and the participants were most receptive to the fight crime messages.
