The Hong Kong Police Old Comrades Association, Vancouver, held a lunch reception for Commissioner Mr Tsang Yam-pui and his wife Betty on their recent visit to the Canadian city. Mr Martin Rigby, a member, reported the event to OffBeat and extended a warm welcome to any and all members of the Force visiting Canada. About 90 members and friends gathered in the Shiang Garden Restaurant, Richmond, on August 13, he wrote. The Honorary President of the Association, Mr Paddy Clancy, gave a welcoming speech in which he expressed the sincere gratitude of all members for the generous support they had received from the Force when setting up. The enthusiastic welcome given to the Commissioner was undoubtedly due to the fact that he had served with or met most of them since he joined the Force in 1965 - and it proved to be the most enjoyable reunion for all concerned. In his reply, Mr Tsang thanked his many old friends for the invitation, especially Chairman Ms Stella Chan and member Mr Tony Ma, who had so efficiently organised the event and ensured that he arrived there on time. He then went on to bring everyone up-to-date with developments within the Force and the many new challenges facing it. He finished by wishing everyone a happy retirement and urged everyone to keep in comradely touch with one another and with the Force itself.
