With the joint efforts of the users of New Territories Regional Command and Control Centre (RCCC NT), Communications Branch (COMMS) and Information Technology Branch (ITB), all CC2 radio networks (except Traffic consoles), ECACCS terminals and 999 telephone equipment, originally on the 10th floor of New Territories North Regional Headquarters (NTN RHQ), were relocated to a temporary RCCC NT on the sixth floor of the same building in early September, the Information Systems Wing announced.

The planning of this project started in April last year. The relocation project was aimed at making way for the impending CC3 console and infrastructure equipment, which are scheduled to move in by the end of 2004.

"It's really a challenging task for NTN Regional Radio Workshop (NTN WS) because an uninterrupted police communication service at RCCC NT must be maintained during the transition," said NTN Senior Police Telecommunications Inspector, Mr Kwok Chi-ho, who is also the COMMS Liaison Officer of the RCCC NT Relocation Team.

"I'm determined to complete the relocation on time and within budget to provide an operationally efficient and user-friendly working environment to the users," he added.

On the day after the successful transition of RCCC NT, Mr Kwok described the joyful feeling that he and his colleagues shared as that of a woman who had just given birth to her first baby.

He said: "Over the past 12 months, on top of the daily maintenance work of NTN WS, tremendous effort has been made to collaborate with various parties such as ASD, EMSD, the Force users, ITB and LC Division of COMMS, to make the relocation a success. The location for the temporary RCCC NT was used to be the changing rooms of Traffic NTN. As such, I had re-designed the area in order to fulfil all the requirements, which range from communication/electronic equipment to logic lock for the main entrance."

Acting Chief Telecommunications Engineer, Mr Chan Hon-kwong, described the RCCC NT relocation as a milestone in the smooth implementation of CC2 to CC3.

"COMMS has gained the support and confidence of Force users by demonstrating its professionalism and high team spirit in this project," he noted..
