Commissioner Dick Lee Ming-kwai last month paid his first visit to the Minister of Public Security, Mr Zhou Yongkang, and the Director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Mr Liao Hui, in Beijing since assuming office in December.

Apart from introducing the latest situation of law and order in Hong Kong, Mr Lee also exchanged with Mr Zhou views on strengthening the sharing of anti-terrorism information, co-operation in staff training, and possible increase in commercial crimes brought by activities related to the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA).

Mr Zhou stressed that stable law and order is essential to Hong Kong's economic development, and that the Ministry of Public Security would render full support to the Force.

In reply, Mr Lee said the Force has the determination and ability to effectively deal with any law and order problem. He also pointed out that the successful joint detection of major cases by the Force and the Mainland underlined the close co-operation between the two parties.
