The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has complimented the Narcotics Bureau (NB) for tracking down a suspected woman "human smuggler", Cheng Chui-ping.

On behalf of the FBI Director, the Legal Attache of the American Consulate General in Hong Kong, Mr Wong Kingman, presented a plaque to Head of NB, Mr Ip Lau-chuen.

Mr Wong also presented appreciation letters to eight officers who had taken part in the operation: DSIP Leung Fu-keung, SSGT Tsoi Wai-tak, DSGT Lo Tip-shang, DSGT Kwong Kai-wing, DPC Chan Tin-wah, PC Dai Ka-ming, WDPC Sze To Yuk-yee and DPC Ho Man-fai.

At the request of the FBI, the officers arrested Cheng on charges of "human smuggling", false imprisonment and blackmail in April 2000. Cheng was subsequently extradited to New York for trial in June 2003.
