Women serve in every region in the Force, holding important and demanding jobs. In this issue, OffBeat looks into the records of the Police Museum to find out the first policewoman in the Force.
In 1949, Miss Kimmy Koh made Hong Kong Police history when she was recruited as the first Woman Sub-Inspector. Two years later, the first intake of nine woman constables marched onto the parade ground at Wong Chuk Hang. The rank of Woman Chief Inspector was first created in 1972 and four officers were appointed to this newly created rank. Since then, thousands of women have served the Force with pride and honour.
