The New Territories North (NTN) Regional Crime Prevention Office has run a workshop on juvenile delinquency for members of the Juvenile Protection Section and Secondary School Liaison Officers from all districts in NTN Region.

With NTN Region having the largest youth population in Hong Kong, the workshop was aimed at equipping officers for their tasks of tackling the juvenile delinquency problems. Dr Chu Yiu-kong from the Department of Sociology of the University of Hong Kong had attended the workshop as a guest speaker.

The workshop had elaborated on juvenile delinquency and criminal mentalities with a view to giving the participants a better understanding of the problems that young people encounter as they grow up, and their pressure from work, family life and friends.

The participants had also taken part in discussions on the ways of helping the youth ease their pressure and vent their emotions so as to stave off crisis situations. It is hoped that through professional advice and interactive communication, the participants would also be better equipped to communicate with and give counseling to the youth.
