More than 100 Junior Police Call (JPC) members and groups have been commended for their remarkable contributions in organising and participating in community services, fighting crime and promoting the JPC Scheme.

During the presentation ceremony of the Hongkong Bank Foundation JPC Awards 2003 held on February 28, they were presented with commendation trophies and cash awards by Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Mr Tang King-shing, Director of Operations Mr Yam Tat-wing, and Head of Personal Financial Services (Hong Kong) of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited Mrs Dorothy Sit.

Since 1977, the Force has been organising this annual award scheme to give due recognition to dedicated members of JPC - the largest youth organisation in Hong Kong with some 140,000 members.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, Senior Superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch, Mr Lau Yip-shing, thanked the Hongkong Bank Foundation for supporting and sponsoring the scheme since 1986.

Mr Lau said the JPC organised thousands of activities last year in the fields of community services, crime prevention and leadership training to convey the messages of fighting crime and caring for society.

Mrs Dorothy Sit also commended JPC members for their achievements.

"Youngsters are greatly affected by peer groups and the activities in which they take part. Through participating in JPC activities, you not only enhance your knowledge of crime prevention but also build up a spirit to serve the community," she told JPC members.

The award scheme comprised four categories: the Best JPC Member, the Best JPC Leader, the Best JPC School Club and the Best JPC Council.

Chan Hin-lun from Wan Chai was selected the Best JPC Member while Chan Kwan-ki from Wong Tai Sin was voted the Best JPC Leader. They were each presented with a commendation trophy and an $8,000 cash award.

Holy Trinity College in Sham Shui Po came out as the Best JPC School Club, which received a $13,000 cash award. The Best JPC District Council award went to Mong Kok which was presented with a $21,000 cash award.
