The Junior Police Call (JPC) programme is dedicated to strengthening youngsters' sense of responsibility and developing their leadership skills through the provision of meaningful activities, Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai said at the JPC 30th Anniversary Launching Ceremony on April 24.

"We will introduce new elements to the programme, including systematic development and more activities to boost members' creativity and leadership skills with a view to training up future leaders to serve the community," Mr Lee added.

During the ceremony which kicked off a series of celebration activities to be held in the months to come, Mr Lee appointed outstanding athletes, namely Ms Ho Ka-lai, Mr Cheng Ka-ho, Mr Fung Ying-ki and Mr Yu Yiu-tung, as well as serving police officers Mr Lai Hok-yan and Ms Angie Tsang as JPC 30th Anniversary Ambassadors to help disseminate fight crime messages to young people.

A short film on the development of JPC over the years was screened at ceremony, followed by the launching of a new JPC theme song composed and sung by Ms Gigi Leung.

After the ceremony, the "ambassadors" took part in publicity bus tours to visit the recruitment counters in Paterson Street, Causeway Bay, and outside the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui, to appeal to young people to enrol as JPC members.

Counters have been set up in all districts in support of this territory-wide recruitment drive.

Established in 1974, JPC aims at enhancing communication between the Force and young people and encouraging them to join the fight against crime through a wide range of healthy and educational pursuits. Targeting at those aged between nine and 25, JPC now has a membership of 140,000 and is one of the largest youth organisations both in Hong Kong and the world.

JPC application forms are available from police stations and JPC clubhouses, or can be downloaded from the JPC website http://www.info.gov.hk/police/hkp-home/english/jpc.
