The Public Light Bus Merchants Association presented a souvenir to officers of the Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North last month in recognition of their efforts in solving a mini-bus robbery.

The robbery occurred in New Territories North District on February 4 when three men, armed with a pistol-like object and two knives, robbed passengers on board a mini-bus heading for Sheung Shui from Sham Shui Po, and made off with about $26,000 in cash and property.

As a result of a series of actions on February 23, the officers arrested the mastermind of the robbery, recovered two stolen portable phones and seized a loaded and converted starting pistol.

Since a mini-bus robbery was reported in October last year, New Territories North District has been setting up roadblocks from time to time to conduct spot checks and collect information. In addition, the Crime Prevention Bureau and Transport Department had held a seminar with members of the Public Light Bus and Maxicab Merchants Association to discuss precautionary measures.
