Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, this year the Hong Kong Police Rugby Football Club has experienced a return to former glories. After a few lean seasons when the club had fielded only one team, it has found resurgence in interest and now comfortably fields two teams every Saturday.

A lot of new blood has flowed into the club and this bodes well for the future of the sport. As newcomer Senior Inspector David Williams pointed out: "I am still learning the basics but I really appreciate the fundamentals of the game which allows for a physically demanding sport completely centered on teamwork. I have set my sights firmly on graduating from the Panthers and hope one season to run out for the 1st XV."

Highlights of the season include the 1st XV winning their division and the Panthers winning their division in both 7's and 15's. Panthers captain and top try scorer Louis Tam remarked: "It was an excellent season for the club and I am very pleased with the turnout and the commitment the lads show on the pitch. It really is a sport that demands you give of your mental and physical best every week and this season the police have proved a force to be reckoned with."

Players are already looking ahead to the next season with a view to building on their growing strength in numbers. The next World Police and Fire Games are already looming and the Force has a silver medal to defend.
