Students from 10 secondary and five primary schools on Hong Kong Island have expressed their ideas of how to prevent bullying at schools in murals during a competition organised by Hong Kong Island Region last month.

With "scribbling out bullying and painting your dream school" as a slogan, the "Anti-school Bullying Mural Painting Competition" was aimed at reminding teenagers to stay away from crime, raising awareness of the problem of school bullying among parents, teachers and students, as well as enhancing co-operation between the Force and schools.

The competition attracted a total of 60 entries from 32 secondary and 17 primary schools in April. After an initial screening of the entries, 10 secondary and five primary schools were selected to enter the final, which was held in Police Training School (PTS) on May 9. Equipped with pens, brushes and oil paints, students spent hours in putting their ideas of combating school bullying in murals on an open parking lot in PTS.

Following adjudication by a judging panel comprising senior officers from HKI Region, including HKI Regional Commander Tang Kam-moon, as well as representatives from Education and Manpower Bureau and the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, Caritas St Francis Secondary School clinched the championship in the secondary school section, followed by Ying Wa Girls' School and Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College.

In the primary school section, the championship went to SKH Kei Yan Primary School, and the first and second runners-up were Raimondi College (Primary Section) and SKH St Matthew's Primary School respectively.

The winners and runners-up were presented with plaques and book coupons ranging from $500 to $1,500 in value.

The champions' murals will be displayed on the wall of the Police Headquarters, and other selected murals will be hung on the walls of police stations on Hong Kong Island.
