Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai recently presented Commissioner's Commendation to 11 officers for handling the SARS outbreak, neutralising a highly organised bank fraud syndicate and arresting four armed robbers. Senior Superintendent Michael McCully and Superintendent Gary Field were commended for their contributions to the successful quarantine and evacuation of residents from Block "E" of the Amoy Gardens in Ngau Tau Kok. Chief Inspector Chan Lun was commended for assisting other Government agencies in controlling the spread of the disease when working in the Major Incident Investigation and Disaster Support System (MIIDSS). Chief Inspectors Mak Chin-ho and Kwong Kwan-fu had contributed to the arrest and prosecution of 28 persons from the bank fraud syndicate, as well as stopping the syndicate from swindling at least $67 million. Inspector Tam Yiu-wing and Police Constables Andy Luk Hoi-on, Lee Kwong-hin, Au Ka-chi, Wong Man-fung and Suen Wing-yin were commended for arresting four robbers in the busy and crowded Prince Edward MTR Station shortly after the culprits had shot a security guard in Tsuen Wan, and made off with $1 million in cash-in-transit. The officers had also seized two revolvers, and recovered the stolen cash. The robbers were subsequently sentenced to imprisonments ranging from eight to 20 years.
