At the 2004 Honours and Awards Presentation Ceremony at Government House on October 9, The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, presented 37 members of the Force with medals, awards and commendations in recognition of their outstanding services.

Among the Force recipients, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Tang King-shing was presented with the Hong Kong Police Medal for Distinguished Service in recognition of his outstanding performance and dedicated service in the Force.
