Force e-Learning Package wins Gold Award

The e-Learning Package on "Guidelines on Use of Firearms" produced by Training Wing has won the Gold Award in the "2004 Excellence in Learning Awards" by Brandon-Hall.com, a leading research and consulting corporation in the field of e-learning in the US.

Chief Inspector (Learning Technologies) Andy Yip received the award on behalf of the Force at the "Training and Online Learning Fall Conference and Expo" in San Francisco early last month.

Produced by an in-house project team comprising staff members from the Learning Technologies Division and Weapon Training Division of Training Wing, the award-winning package was submitted to compete in the "Special Strength: Interactivity" Sub-category of the "Custom Content" Category.

The Force is the first local organisation
to have won the Gold Award

The "Custom Content" Category accepted entries of e-learning packages developed for learners at the workplace from corporate, government, and military enterprises around the world. There were over 140 entries competing for awards in the category this year.

Presented by Brandon-Hall.com, the "Excellence in Learning Awards" Programme showcases exceptional work and provides an arena for cross-fertilisation and benchmarking for entrants in an overall effort to help advance the e-learning industry. The Force is the first Hong Kong organisation to have won the Gold Award in any category of the programme.

In announcing the award winners for Year 2004, Brandon-Hall.com highly praised the excellent achievement attained by the winning entries in terms of creativity and range of application, noting the extremely fast pace of developments and innovation in the field of e-learning globally.

During his recent visit to Training Wing, Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai personally thanked Mr Andy Yip and his team for their sterling work in producing the award-winning package and encouraged all in Training Wing to keep up their efforts towards making the future Police College an internationally recognised centre of learning.

Assistant Commissioner (Training) David Thomas noted: "It is a great honour for the Force to have won this very prestigious award. Not only has it recognised the very high quality of our e-learning packages, but also reaffirmed the fact that Hong Kong Police training in general is on a par with, if not above, international standards".

The award-winning package will be available to Force members from POINT later this month.
