Bill Riach commemorated
as rugby season starts

The Bill Riach Cup, first started in 1963 in honour of a Canadian police officer who played rugby for the police until he tragically died in a traffic accident, has been held again this year in keeping with tradition.

The Bill Riach 7's was held at the PSRC for competing teams in the 3rd Division, whilst at the same event teams in the 4th Division fought for the Braithwaite Cup, donated by Keith Braithwaite who left the Force recently.

A total of 12 teams, including Macao, took to the pitch in a number of fiercely contested clashes. The police fielded a team in each division but this year were unable to get to the finals which on the day were won by Hong Kong Football Club and Nomads respectively. On hand to give out the trophies was none other than rugby royalty in the shape of Peter Burbidge King and wife Chris, who will soon depart these shores for less polluted climes.

On a general note, the rugby season has started again and anyone (or anyone's son) with an interest in taking up this challenging but very rewarding sport are welcome to come along on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm to the PSRC. For further details, contact Louie on 9733-3565 or BJ on 9460-0466.
