The Force held an exercise with Guangdong Public Security Bureau and Macao Police Force for the first time on November 15 to enhance co-operation in countering international terrorism through co-ordinated actions and exchanging intelligence.

Senior officials from Guangdong Province and the three police forces were on hand to observe various operations as the exercise was conducted in two sessions.

The morning session was primarily a test of interactive sharing and passing of counter-terrorism intelligence. Upon receipt of initial terrorism-related information, the tripartite counter-terrorism intelligence mechanism was immediately activated to support development of further information and ensure that updated information would be shared on a timely basis.

During this session, Zhuhai and Macao police forces jointly carried out arrest actions at the Gongbei Boundary Crossing Point (BCP).

The evening session continued from the previous one, developing into a joint operation between Shenzhen and the Force at the Sha Tau Kok BCP for intercepting and apprehending suspected terrorists. There the Police Tactical Unit mounted a vehicle checkpoint, while Shenzhen's counter-terrorism units dealt with a hostage situation, a leakage of bio-chemical substance, and an improvised explosive device.

The tightly sequenced tripartite exercise had put particular emphasis on realism and the practicality in police tactics and operations. It has also laid down a solid foundation for effective counter-terrorism co-operation amongst the three police forces through intelligence exchange and contingency actions.
