PTU retains title

The Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Team retained the title for this year's "Matilda Hospital Sedan Chair Race" held on the Peak on November 14, after beating Fire Services Department and HSBC.

Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai started the annual charity event for the first time in its 30 years of history. After that, the PTU team brought home the title in a time of 13 minutes and 13 seconds for the 3.2 km course in Mount Kellet Road. The victory brought to an end eight weeks of extremely hard physical training, which saw very keen competition for places in the team.

Once again response from the Force to this important fund-raising effort has been satisfactory and to date over $10,000 in donations have been received. Donations are still welcome and cheques payable to the 'Matilda Charities Fund' may be sent to Chief Inspector Ian Strange at PTU HQ.

Overall, it has been a very successful campaign both for sporting and fund-raising. At this juncture, it is always timely to sound a note of remembrance for Senior Inspector Paul Terry who was the initial inspiration behind the Force's participation in the Sedan Chair Race and who sadly passed away in 1995.

The race has been very successful on both the sporting and fund-raising fronts
