Two senior officers from the French National Police have recently completed a three-week attachment programme in Crime Wing in a bid to enhance international co-operation.

Captains Jean-Christophe Marten-Perolin and Bruno Balduc were attached to Commercial Crime Bureau and Organised Crime and Triad Bureau, but spent most of their time with Narcotics Bureau because they were keen to learn financial investigation skills.

The attachment also featured a rich exchange of knowledge, which strengthened the relationship between the French Police and the Force.

They also attended Commissioner's Garden Party and the Crime Wing Presentation Ceremony to have a feel of Hong Kong Police's culture and management style.

The French police captains also took the opportunity to deliver an experience sharing presentation to about 100 officers from Crime Wing Bureaux and Regions on December 16, 2004 in the PHQ Auditorium. The presentation covered an introduction to the structure of the French National Police, the legal framework, working procedures in dealing with criminal cases, and the organisation and mission of the Counterfeit Unit and Narcotics Unit. The presentation drew an overwhelming response from the audience.

Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Lo Yik-kee saw the experience sharing session as a good opportunity for participating officers to broaden their horizon and learn the "best practices" of other forces.

Captain Marten-Perolin felt that his attachment would bring both forces closer and provide an excellent vehicle to share experience, while Captain Balduc said he was impressed with the hospitality of the Force.
