Women officers take honours in Asian shooting contest
The Hong Kong Clay Target Shooting Team comprised Woman Chief Inspectors Lillian Shek Lai-ling and Katherine Cheung Tin-yee, Woman Sergeant Wong Sze-wan, and Auxiliary Woman Constable Kwan Wai-yin.
The Championships, organised annually by the South East Asia Shooting Association, is held in different Southeast Asian cities. A total of 14 teams representing various Southeast Asian countries or cities have competed in the Trap, Double Trap and Skeet events.
In the Double Trap event, all shooters have vied with each other in three preliminary rounds of 20 pairs or 40 clay targets per round, with the top six shooters with the highest number of hits qualifying for the finals. Despite hot weather and fierce competition, the Hong Kong team performed extraordinarily well and attained impressive results in their first exposure to an international event, with WCIP Shek having qualified for the individual finals.
The team's achievement is attributable to not only its hard work and perseverance, but also the big support given by the Police Shooting Club and the Hong Kong Shooting Association (HKSA).
Chairman of Shooting Sub-Committee (Clay Target) of the HKSA and Class 'A' Referee of the International Sport Shooting Federation, Mr Cheng Shu-ming, thanked the Police Shooting Club for identifying the four talented shooters and providing them with training. He was also very pleased with the Hong Kong team's results, and hoped that it would continue attaining high standings in future competitions.
