Retirement Courses well received

The first new series of Retirement Preparation Courses in Cantonese were held successfully at the Arsenal House Auditorium earlier this month, with six seminars on different subjects attracting a big attendance by officers of different ranks. A total of 273 officers have attended one or more seminars.

Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch organised the courses on the understanding that Force members nearing retirement will need to adapt to a series of changes and to make important decisions, such as going into a second career or pursuing one's interest or life goal, issues about future income, financial management, and personal health, etc. Therefore the aim of the courses is to arouse the officers' interest and awareness and enable them to have an early and well-prepared plan for retirement.

The seminars have covered the following subjects:

Keys for an Enriched and Balanced Retirement Life by Senior Police Clinical Psychologist, Mr Eddie Li, who spoke on how to face changes and possible stress of retirement.

Benefits as a Government Pensioner, Housing Arrangement for Retirement, and Force Welfare and Resettlement Service after Retirement by EO CS (RB), Ms Priscilla Chan, SCO CS (HB), Mr Lo Kam-chiu, and ACO CS, Mrs Yip Lam Mui-yan, together with FWO KE, Ms Wong Lai-bing, and SIP RES, Mrs Kwok Tong Siu-kei.

How to Maintain Healthy after Retirement, Healthy Lifestyles and Physical Exercise after Retirement by Dietician (Elderly Health Services) from Department of Health, Ms Amy Leung Hay-mei, who talked on food and nutrition. Three other representatives of the department also gave advice on healthy lifestyles and physical exercises.

Financial Management for Retirement, Understanding Various Investment Products by President of Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong, Ms Juliana L H Lam, and SFC Registered Investment Representative, Mr Jones Lam, spoke on how to have a financial plan for retirement, and introduced different tools of investments.

Preparing for Second Career by Senior Consultant of Right Management Consultants, Mrs Sandy Wong.

Considering to Start Your Own Business by Senior Consultant of Right Management Consultants, Ms Elizabeth Hurip, who provided professional advice on the vital points for starting business.

The next Retirement Preparation Course will be offered in English free of charge in early June, and more details will be announced next month. It is not restricted to officers due to retire, and is open to all Force members.
