The Force recently paid recognition to some 100 Junior Police Call (JPC) members, JPC School Clubs and JPC District Councils for organising and participating in community services, helping to publicise fight crime messages, and promoting the JPC scheme. During the presentation ceremony of the Hongkong Bank Foundation JPC Awards 2004, held at Police Sports and Recreation Club, Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Fung Siu-yuen, and Head of Personal Financial Services (Hong Kong) of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), Mrs Dorothy Sit, presented trophies and cash prizes to winners of the annual awards scheme. Speaking at the ceremony, Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Ma Wai-luk thanked the Hongkong Bank Foundation for supporting the awards scheme over the years, and praised participants of the scheme for demonstrating, during the selection process, not only their potential, but also creativity, team spirit and positive values of life. Also speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Sit commended JPC members for their achievements and praised the mission of the JPC. "The mission of the JPC corresponds with HSBC's aims to actively support education projects in the community and encourage students to have full personal development. HSBC is proud to have funded the awards scheme since 1986. We hope the youth of Hong Kong would establish proper values and be better equipped for the challenges of life through participating in JPC activities," she noted. The awards scheme features four categories, namely Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader, Best JPC School Club and Best JPC District Council. A selection panel comprising representatives from the Force, HSBC and a non-governmental organisation, picked the champion of each category from over 200 JPC members nominated for the awards scheme. Yuen Hoi-ki from Tsuen Wan was voted the Best JPC Leader and Fong Chi-him from Wan Chai the Best JPC Member, with each being presented with a commendation trophy and a $8,000 cash prize. Queen Elizabeth School won the Best JPC School Club award and received a $13,000 cash award, while the Best JPC District Council award went to Tsuen Wan District, which was honoured with a $21,000 cash award. The Force has been organising the awards scheme since 1977 to give recognition to dedicated members of the JPC, which is one of the largest youth organisations in Hong Kong with a membership of over 140,000.
