Double victories for Police Squash Team |

The five-member Police Squash Team 2 has clinched the championships of both the Division 7 and the Final Series of the Hong Kong Squash Open League 2005, after winning 22 out of a total of 24 home and away matches. Starting last October, the matches were played every Wednesday night, and the final was held on April 27. Before claiming their victory, each member of the winning team had played five competitive games and at least three of them had won their respective games. The victory is the result of the two-hour training they had put in every week. The squash league is a very popular sport in Hong Kong, with over 230 teams and over 2,000 players from all walks of life taking part in this year's events. It is a team sport with members supporting each other throughout the seven-month league. Apart from strenuous training, Force members coming from all ranks and different units have to turn up for their games every week. Police Squash Club Chairman Kenny Ip, who is the convenor of Police Squash Team 2, has played for police teams for over 20 years. He appeals to Force members eager to stay healthy to pick up the squash racket. He said squash training is provided every Saturday afternoon from I pm to 3 pm at both POC and PSRC. More details are available from Station Sergeant Nelson Chiu Ho-wah of T NTN at 8101-1634. "We are fortunate to have our home courts for training at both POC and PSRC. We train hard and play hard. Squash games make us more energetic and healthy. Sometimes we may lose a game but never our team spirit," said Mr Ip. Meanwhile, the finals of the Police Squash Club Closed Championships 2005 will be held at the squash courts of PSRC on May 26. Following the prize presentation at 6 pm will be the squash club's Annual General Meeting in the PSRC conference room. All squash club members and Force members are invited to attend. Further details are available by calling Tsui Chung-wai at 2603-4054.
