Spacious Force Library assumes new look

Situated on the 7/F of Arsenal House, PHQ, the new Force Library has a spacious floor area of about 800 square metres, complete with purpose-built facilities, new furniture and equipment. The modern design of the library, coupled with comfortable sofas and a magnificent view of the Victoria Harbour, provides a comfortable environment for library users.

During the past two years, Force Library staff has also been taking steps to modernise the library to meet the growing needs of Force members. To better serve library users, the opening hours of the Force Library have been extended beyond normal office working hours, i.e. from 9am to 7pm from Monday to Friday and from 9am to 4pm on Saturday. Services are also available during lunch hours.

Audio-Visual Room

Have you ever needed a quiet place to view audio-visual materials alone or together with your colleagues? The Force Library's Audio-Visual Room which consists of ten single booths for individual viewers and two group booths (each accommodates up to five viewers at the same time) can surely meet your needs. You can enjoy programmes from audio tapes, CD, video tapes, VCD and DVD in each of these booths. In addition, the Force Library has recently acquired some new AV materials on policing and management topics which are availalle to users on loan.

Project Room

Do you need a room for group discussions or project meetings somewhere at PHQ? The Project Room at the Force Library can be a good choice. All Force members are welcome to book this room on a first-come-first-served basis.

Study Booths

Need a quiet place for private study? There are eight individual well-designed study booths in the library, providing a quiet, comfortable and private environment for library users.

Networked Computers

There are 22 networked computers in the Force library, all of which have been installed with Microsoft Office for word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, ...etc. POlice INTranet (POINT) can be easily accessed with these computers and five of them have also been enhanced with Common Terminal Access (CTA) functions.

Books and Periodicals

In recent years, the Force Library has also taken steps to increase its collection. At present, there are in the library about 6,000 books of different subjects and topics (e.g. policing, criminology, management and leadership, law, psychological competence, healthy life style, social issues and problems, etc.), six current media newspaper titles, and 60 magazine and journal titles to meet the needs of different users. Past issues of newspapers (up to three months) and selected periodicals are also available.

University Library Cards

To meet the need to borrow books from local universities, the Force Library has already prepared two library membership cards from the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. These library cards are available to library users on loan on a first-come-first served basis.

Book Display

From time to time, the Force Library conducts different kinds of Book Display activities to highlight and recommend readings to library users. At present, the Book Display Area of the Force Library has four bookcases displaying the following items: -

Bookcase B - New Book Display / Recommended Readings

Bookcase C - Information on Learning Opportunities

Bookcase D - Miscellaneous Information
