On Mother's day on Sunday, May 8, hoisting of the rainstorm signal in the morning failed to stop 4,000 Force members and their families from turning up at the Family Carnival 2005 held at PSRC and enjoying a variety of fun-filled programmes.

The programmes catered for both young and old, including a talk on family harmony, a salad-making competition, displays on family life education non-governmental welfare agencies, family sports, stall games and mural painting, etc. In addition, the winning entries to the "Letters to Dad/Mum" essay writing and "Happy Family" drawing competitions were on display.

Sergeant Chau from NTS was pleased to learn of his daughter's winning the 2nd prize in the essay-writing competition in the Secondary School category. "After reading her essay, I've a better idea of how my daughter sees me as a father!" he quipped.

The Family Carnival sought to promote the concept of mutual care and support among family members, in line with the theme of the "Living the Values Wave V - Building a Caring Workforce" Workshop, which was launched earlier in the year.

The Commissioner, Mr Lee Ming-kwai, and his wife lent support to the promotion by attending the Carnival as guests of honour. Mrs Lee also presented prizes to the winners of the various competitions, while Assistant Commissioner (Personnel), Mr Chan Wai-ki, handed out "Thank You Certificates" to helpers of the carnival.

After the presentation, the couple and Mr Chan watched stage performances by the Police Children's Choir and the JPOA Harmonica Class and went round the games and exhibition stalls to share the fun of the Carnival.
