Force members and their families raised the highest sum of $430,000 among seven disciplinary forces for a good cause at the Law Enforcement Torch Run 2005, which was held at the Shatin Town Hall Plaza on May 15.

The participating forces raised a total of $1.1 million, which will be used to finance mentally handicapped persons' participation in sporting activities. The event was also aimed at drumming up support for mentally handicapped persons' participation in the Special Olympics.

Despite a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius - the highest recorded so far this year, 522 Force members and their families turned up for the 3.5-km run, and were cheered on by Director of Operations Yam Tat-wing. Leading the Force runners on the trail surrounding the Shing Mun River was Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Lo Yik-kee.

A group of 60 Force volunteers were on hand to help with venue decoration and crowd control along the trail, ensuring the event proceeded smoothly.

The $430,000 is a record sum raised by Force members in the annual event, with New Territories North Region clinching the title of champion money-raising formation, followed by Crime Wing and Information Systems Wing as first runners-up and New Territories South Region, as second runner-up.
