Watchdog facility upgraded with officers' help
As a token of their appreciation, the Centre last month invited the two officers to declare the new room open by unveiling a plaque outside the room, before a large gathering of guests, children, parents and Centre staff. The plaque commemorates the officers' efforts in raising over $0.5 million by participating in and completing the 89-km Comrades Marathon in South Africa last June.
In her welcoming speech, the Chairperson of the Centre, Ms Kitty So, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the officers' "continuous support and generous donation". She described their participation in the marathon as "a great accomplishment by itself ", making the refurbishment possible.
"Words cannot express how grateful we are but we still would like to say a 'big thank you', on behalf of all the children at Watchdog," said Ms So.
The money Senior Superintendent Peter Barnes and Chief Inspector Paul Keylock raised for the Watchdog Early Learning and Development Centre in Central last year, has been spent in refurbishing an Occupational Training Room for children requiring special attention with their growth and education.
