Over 80 officers approaching retirement, Force Welfare Officers, Assistant Force Welfare Officers, Training and Staff Relations Officers (TSROs), as well as members of Formation Training Teams, gathered at the Auditorium at Police Headquarters on June 2 and enjoyed an informative and elaborate seminar on "Financial Plan for Future". The seminar was organised by Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch as one of the modules in the second "Retirement Preparation Course" for 2005. After years of promotion of awareness of "financial prudence", the seminar was designed to show participants the direction to put this concept into practice. As financial plans for retirement should be formulated well in advance, Dr Louis Cheng, Associate Professor, School of Accounting and Finance, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, started the seminar by delivering a novel concept for such plans. He also provided a quick tool for participants to evaluate their risk tolerance level in designing plans to suit individuals. Mr Jones Lam, Founding Member of Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong, continued the seminar with an explicit introduction of the various financial tools available in the market, and the pragmatic strategy on portfolio. The speakers are assisting Staff Relations Group in preparing a summary of their presentations, which will be delivered to TSROs for regular briefings to officers, as laid down in the Administrative Instructions on the Management of Police Indebtedness. |
