A major in-house relocation project - probably the biggest one ever for Communications Branch (COMMS) - was completed on May 31 when all the IT/Comms facilities comprising the Beat Radio channels/networks, ECACCS terminals and 999 telephone equipment, were relocated to a temporary command and control centre at New Territories North Regional Headquarters from Kowloon West Regional Headquarters . This successful relocation - in line with the CC3 project programme implementation - was the result of the joint efforts of Kowloon Regional Command and Control Centre (RCCC K) users, Implementation Team, COMMS and Information Technology Branch. As a matter of fact, planning of this relocation project started in March last year, with the aim of making way for the impending building and installation works in connection with the removal of consoles and infrastructure equipment. "The success of this relocation project has demonstrated the team building and collaboration spirit among all units of the Force," said Mr Luk Yiu-tong, Senior Telecommunications Engineer, Operations and Services Support Division of COMMS Branch. "This project also induces many complicated technical challenges, learning opportunities and sense of achievement to the team," he added. "It's an in-house relocation project of the largest scale that has ever been handled by COMMS, the most challenging issue being to ensure a seamless transition of police communication services at RCCC K during the transition period," said Mr Kwok Chi-ho, Senior Police Telecommunications Inspector, who is the COMMS project manager of the RCCC K relocation team. Mr Kwok said that on the day after the successful transition of RCCC K, he was really proud of sharing "this historic moment" with COMMS colleagues. "It was most impressive for me to see COMMS, once again, demonstrating her unfailing team spirit in this project," he added. The success of the relocation of RCCC K has marked another milestone in the smooth project implementation from CC2 to CC3, and COMMS has once again demonstrated its professionalism and high team spirit throughout the project, gaining support and confidence from Force users.
